Intended Parent Q&A

What is Gestational Surrogacy?

Gestational surrogacy is when a woman carries a pregnancy for a couple or individual and she is not genetically connected to the baby she is carrying.  During the IVF cycle the eggs are retrieved from the Intended Mother or egg donor, then fertilized with the Intended Father’s sperm or sperm donor, thus creating an embryo or embryos. Then the embryos are then transferred into the Gestational Carrier.

Why should I choose Positive Surrogacy verses another agency?

Positive Surrogacy has over 10 years of experience managing surrogacy arrangements. During this time we recognized that intended parents could greatly benefit by receiving a more intimate one on one experience to ensure a positive journey to parenthood. We make it our personal goal for our intended parents and surrogate’s to relax and enjoy the surrogacy journey. At Positive Surrogacy we understand that this is a large financial investment.

What services does Positive Surrogacy provide?

In order to match our intended parents with the right surrogate candidate, we ask that our intended parents fill out the intended parent questionnaire and complete a consultation by meeting in person, or skype, Facetime, or via phone. This will allow us to get to know you on a personal level. We can then better assist you with your expectations of a surrogate candidate for a successful match. Our services also include the complete management of your surrogacy arrangement including managing the testing of the Surrogate candidate and her spouse/partner; coordinating the background and psychological evaluations; directing your surrogate candidate with insurance coverage, coordinating the contract process between you and your Surrogate Mother; coordinating with the fertility center, attorneys, psychologists, and obstetricians. Managing the trust or escrow account reimbursements and disbursements. Ongoing professional support to you and your Surrogate throughout the entire journey. We also hold monthly meetings and activities that help us in providing personal support to your Surrogate. We will also be available after hours if an urgent need arrises, and will be in touch with you with important updates throughout the entire process.

Do you work with gay couples?

Absolutely, we believe anyone has the right to be a parent regardless of their sexual orientation

How will I be matched with a Surrogate Mother?

All of our Intended Parents and Surrogate Mothers will complete a profile. In these profiles you will share your personal views. Our program director will send you profiles of Surrogate candidates that share your views. After your review, our director will reach out to the Surrogates you have shown interest in and then share your profile with the surrogate candidate. Upon the Surrogate’s review of your profile, we will then schedule a meeting between you and the surrogate candidate by phone, skype, facetime, WeChat or in person. Once you both agree to match, your journey will begin!

How long does it take to be matched?

Once you have completed your no-cost initial consultation with our program director, and complete your profile, you will be sent Surrogate profiles immediately. A potential match can be made from anywhere from two weeks and on depending on your preferences of timing and what you are comfortable with. A match happens once you have spoken to your desired Surrogate Candidate, and you have both agreed to accept the match. We will then happily assist you with the retaining process

What kind of support do you provide before, during, and after the entire surrogacy process?

We understand the process of Surrogacy can be overwhelming at times. With our experience with being Surrogates ourselves, we have learned the needs of intended parents and this gives us the tools needed to provide support in many situations that can arise. We love providing our intended parents and surrogates with constant updates to ensure everyone knows exactly what is going on at all times with the surrogacy journey. We are also a phone call, text message, WeChat, Facetime, Voxer, message away anytime you want to chat or have a question. We are truly passionate about what we do here at Positive Surrogacy and are hope is that you will see this passion during your journey with us.

Where will my Surrogate Mother give birth?

The Surrogate Mother will give birth to your baby at a hospital that is local to where she resides, and a hospital that her OB doctor has residency and rights to.

How many times do I have to come to California?

IVF physicians require you come to California for the medical screening and the egg retrieval/fertilization process if you are using your own eggs and/or sperm. If the intended Mother plans on using her own eggs, she should plan on being in California for at least three weeks. It is recommended, but not required that you try to be here at least once during the pregnancy. If possible, we at Positive Surrogacy recommend if you are expecting twins that you arrive five weeks before the due date and for a singleton pregnancy that you arrive three weeks before the due date.

What is the purpose of a Surrogacy Agreement?

The purpose of this legal document is to allow each party to state their intentions and their responsibilities to one another. The agreement will clearly state that the Surrogate does not intend on parenting a Surrogate Pregnancy and does not wish to have physical or legal custody of any resulting baby. The surrogacy agreement will also define the rights and responsibilities of the Intended Parents and Surrogate Mother.

Will our names go directly on the birth certificate?

California is one of the few states that both of your names can and will be reflected on the birth certificate.
