Here is a list of our best tips to ensure you find a great match!
Suggestion 1:
Fill out your profile questions, thoroughly and honestly! It is important that you take the time to answer the questions truthfully. Consider what really matters to you, especially in regard to your willingness to work with different types of families. Think about your particular belief system and be honest. Don’t say you are willing to work with any family, especially if you aren’t as it can lead to unnecessary complications in the future. The most important questions to consider are:
Are you willing to work with?
- International couples?
- Non- English speakers/Translator?
- Couples of any race/multi-racial?
- Same sex/transgender couples?
- Single parents?
- Older couples/older singles?
You will also need to consider what your beliefs are regarding termination or selective reduction if an abnormality was discovered or any medical condition. It is your body and we will need to know your feelings before you sign a contract, whether you would be willing to terminating a pregnancy for a variety of reasons. As a surrogate, it is your body and you will have a right to choose what is best for you. You also need to consider if you are willing to carry twins.
Intended parents, these are your embryos and your future family, you will have to know what your expectations are from your surrogate as well. You also need to explore your beliefs are regarding what type of woman you are willing to work with as well. Do you want someone who is married or is a single? Would you prefer your surrogate be a stay at home Mother, or is it better if she works outside of the home, etc.
Suggestion 2:
Creating a family is an intimate situation. However, every person and journey are different. Would you prefer a close relationship or a less personal? Would you be comfortable allowing your intended parents accompany you to Doctor’s appointments or be in the delivery room? Or are you more private? Would you like to stay in contact after the baby is born? Some journeys lead to lifelong friendships and surrogates are a part of the family, others keep periodic contact and others end the relationship entirely. It is important to have an idea of what you are looking for, so the best match can be made.
Suggestion 3:
Get ready! I like to joke that the match meeting is a cross between a blind date and a job interview! It can be exciting and stressful all at once. The best thing you can do is stay positive and hopeful. You will be able to review the intended parent’s profile prior to a phone or in person meeting. It is up to you to make the final decision. Trust your instinct and never feel pressured! Our intended parent director Christine is ready to answer any questions you may have.
Becoming matched with a couple is an amazing feeling but having a wonderful journey that leads to a happy healthy baby is the ultimate goal. So, taking time out to follow these pointers can help guide you in the right direction!
